Bipartisan polling firm RABA Research conducted an online survey of 510 Tennessean registered voters from January 22 – 24, 2025. The survey looked at respondents’ opinions on hurricane relief and a potential expansion of the state’s voucher program.
Of particular note, 86% of respondents believe “supporting hurricane efforts” is a more important priority than “expanding taxpayer funded private school voucher programs”.
- The results of this survey show 70% of respondents oppose state lawmakers diverting tax revenue away from public education to use for private school vouchers”. And 52% of respondents would be LESS LIKELY to support their legislator if they voted to “allow tax dollars to be spent on private education”.
79% do not “believe it would be appropriate for Tennessee’s taxpayers to be paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to private schools outside of Tennessee,” which has happened in states with similar programs such as West Virginia.
When asked “which of the following issues do you believe is the highest priority for Tennessee” the survey found;
- Healthcare – 42%
- Housing – 40%
- Hurricane relief – 11%
- Taxpayer funded vouchers for private schools – 7%
